A Woodland Wedding at St Werburghs City Farm & Boiling Wells Amphitheatre
Nestled in the heart of Bristol, Boiling Wells Amphitheatre is a really unique place to get married.
Just a short walk from St Werburghs City Farm, the site is a 2.5-acre conservation area made up of a steep orchard, grass terraces, wild green spaces and woodland.
Shalyn & Chris chose to make the most of the different spaces throughout their wedding day, which gave the whole celebration a really natural flow.
The day started with their ceremony in the Boiling Wells Amphitheatre, followed by drinks, nibbles and time to relax on the grass terrace. From there, everyone headed over to the beautiful Larch Barn, where they had a bring-and-share meal, an outdoor kitchen and a pizza oven.
Later in the day, we headed back to the amphitheatre for an incredibly fun sing-along before returning to Larch Barn, where the brass band Loud Noises played into the evening.
It was such a fun and unique wedding to be part of. I absolutely loved how the day moved between the different spaces, with plenty of time for everyone to eat, drink, chat, dance and enjoy themselves. It’s exactly the kind of relaxed, lively DIY wedding I love photographing.
Wedding Photography at Boiling Wells Amphitheatre
One of the things I love about photographing weddings at Boiling Wells is the variety of backdrops you have available to you.
Even during a busy wedding day, there are usually little pockets of quiet where we can wander through the gardens and woodland together and capture some relaxed couple photographs without taking you away from your guests for too long.
The combination of gardens, grass terraces and woodland gives you loads of variety without needing to travel anywhere. You can have photographs surrounded by colourful wildflowers, open green spaces and secluded woodland, all within a few minutes’ walk of each other.
For me, that makes Boiling Wells a particularly exciting place to photograph a wedding. There are so many little corners to explore, and the surroundings have a wonderfully wild and natural feel.
A Relaxed Woodland Wedding in Bristol
Surrounded by wildflowers, wildlife, winding paths and mature trees, Boiling Wells is a brilliant option for couples looking for a wedding venue with a more outdoorsy feel.
It’s also a great fit for couples who want something less traditional and a little more DIY. The different spaces can be used throughout the day, allowing you to create a wedding that feels completely personal to you rather than following a set format.
With space for larger celebrations of up to 150 guests, there’s plenty of room for everyone to enjoy themselves, while the different areas of the site help the day feel relaxed and informal.
Shalyn & Chris’s wedding was a perfect example of this. Nothing felt overly formal, and there was always something happening, from the ceremony and sing-along to pizza, a brass band and plenty of dancing.
Bristol Wedding Photographer
I love photographing weddings that feel like a genuine reflection of the people getting married. The big moments are important, but it’s often the smaller things I enjoy most, friends laughing together, someone grabbing another slice of pizza, a spontaneous dance or everyone joining in with a slightly chaotic sing-along.
That’s what made Shalyn & Chris’s wedding at Boiling Wells so much fun to photograph.
If you’re planning a wedding at Boiling Wells, St Werburghs City Farm or somewhere else in Bristol and you’re looking for relaxed, candid wedding photography, I’d love to hear about your plans.
