If you’re searching for the best wedding venues in Somerset, you’re spoiled for choice. From elegant Bath wedding venues and historic manor houses to rustic barns, vineyards and outdoor wedding spaces, Somerset has some of the most beautiful wedding venues in the UK.

As a Somerset wedding photographer, I’ve photographed weddings at many of these venues and visited countless others. This guide shares my favourite wedding venues in Somerset, along with who they’re best suited for and what makes each one unique.

These aren’t wedding venues I’ve found on a generic list, and none of them are sponsored recommendations. These are venues where I’ve spent countless hours photographing weddings, working alongside venue teams, meeting suppliers and capturing couples as they celebrate with family and friends.

As a Somerset wedding photographer, I’ve experienced these venues in every season and all kinds of weather. This guide is my personal selection of some of the best wedding venues in Somerset, based on the atmosphere, the experience for couples and guests, and of course, the opportunities they offer for beautiful photographs.

Guildhall

Location: Bath City Centre

Starting with the Registration Suite at Guildhall Bath, this beautiful Grade I listed Georgian and Victorian building sits in the heart of the city. The venue offers six ceremony rooms to choose from, including the Abbey View Room, where couples can opt for a candlelit ceremony.

The Guildhall caters for everything from intimate ceremonies to much larger gatherings, making it a fantastic choice for couples looking for flexibility. It is also perfectly positioned if you’re planning to continue your celebrations elsewhere, with countless reception venues nearby.

For photography, Bath offers an incredible variety of locations. From the city’s historic architecture to its beautiful parks and open green spaces, there are endless opportunities for stunning couple portraits.

Elmhay Park

Location: Frome

Venue Type: Exclusive-use country house and estate wedding venue

Best For: Couples wanting a seamless wedding day with accommodation, beautiful gardens and multiple ceremony options all in one location.

Elmhay Park is a personal favourite of mine and a venue I have enjoyed returning to for many years. It is an exceptionally well thought out wedding venue, with everything you need on site and within easy walking distance, allowing the day to flow effortlessly.

From a photography perspective, it offers a huge amount of variety, including beautiful walled gardens, open green spaces and elegant archways that create wonderful backdrops for couple portraits. In good weather, the patio provides a fantastic setting for drinks receptions and relaxed candid photographs of your guests.

Ceremonies can take place outdoors or within the Italian Garden, both of which feel bright, spacious and beautifully designed. If you’re looking for a venue that can comfortably host every part of your wedding day, along with celebrations before and after, Elmhay Park would be one of my top recommendations.

Kelston Roundhill Barn

Location: Kelston, near Bath

Venue Type: Restored off-grid barn venue

Best For: Couples looking for a relaxed countryside wedding with flexibility to bring in their own suppliers and create a bespoke celebration.

Kelston Roundhill Barn is one of Somerset’s hidden gems. This beautifully restored off-grid Victorian stone barn enjoys spectacular views across the surrounding countryside and offers a wonderful blank canvas for couples looking to create a wedding that feels entirely their own.

The venue allows you to bring in your own caterers and suppliers, or even organise much of the day yourself. There is also camping available on site, making it ideal for relaxed weekend celebrations.

One of the things I love most about photographing weddings here is the scenery. The panoramic views, combined with the character of the barn itself, create an incredible setting for both candid moments and couple portraits.

Somerset Countryside

Pennard House

Location: East Pennard, near Glastonbury

Venue Type: Country house wedding venue

Best For: Couples wanting a classic Somerset wedding venue with accommodation, beautiful gardens and exclusive use for the weekend.

I first began photographing weddings at Pennard House around five or six years ago and immediately thought it was a wonderful place to get married. My opinion has not changed, and I always look forward to returning.

The team are among my favourite venue staff to work with. They are consistently friendly, welcoming and incredibly helpful throughout the day.

The grounds offer a huge variety of locations for photographs, while couples can choose from several ceremony options, including the church located at the bottom of the gardens. The venue flows naturally from one part of the day to the next, moving seamlessly from the ceremony to the drinks reception and wedding breakfast.

With accommodation available on site and exclusive use of the house, it ticks all the boxes for couples looking for a relaxed countryside wedding venue in Somerset.

Village Halls & Community Venues

Location: Across Somerset

Venue Type: Community halls and village venues

Best For: Couples looking for a personal, budget-friendly wedding reception in a location that holds special meaning for them and their families.

I have photographed many wedding receptions in village halls across Somerset. While they are often overlooked, they can be a fantastic option for couples looking for a more personal and cost-effective celebration.

A ceremony might take place in a church or registry office, with the reception and evening celebrations held in a local hall that means something to the couple and their families.

Not only can this be a more affordable alternative to a traditional wedding venue, but it often creates a much more personal atmosphere. Whether you grew up in the area, have family nearby, or simply want to celebrate somewhere familiar, village halls can offer incredible flexibility.

Some of my favourites include Batcombe Hall and Church, along with The Old School Room in Chew Magna.

Barley Wood

Location: Wrington, North Somerset

Venue Type: Country house and garden wedding venue

Best For: Couples who love countryside views, outdoor ceremonies and a relaxed house-party atmosphere.

Located in Wrington, just a short drive from Bristol Airport, Barley Wood is a beautiful eighteenth-century country house set within 11 acres of gardens and woodland, with stunning views across the Mendip Hills.

The outdoor ceremony area offers one of the most impressive viewpoints of any venue in the region. It feels unique, peaceful and wonderfully connected to the surrounding countryside.

The house itself is bright and spacious, providing excellent indoor options should the weather turn, as well as plenty of room for evening entertainment. The naturally lit function room is ideal for wedding breakfasts and photographs throughout the day.

With accommodation available on site, Barley Wood is also a great choice for guests travelling from further afield.

Court Farm Standerwick

Location: Standerwick, near Frome

Venue Type: Rustic barn wedding venue

Best For: Couples looking for a relaxed countryside wedding with characterful barn spaces and plenty of outdoor room for guests.

Another personal favourite of mine is Court Farm in Standerwick. This beautiful sixteenth-century barn venue is surrounded by ten acres of gardens and countryside, creating a wonderful setting for relaxed celebrations.

If your style leans towards rustic countryside charm, this venue is well worth considering. The exposed beams, vintage chandeliers and characterful barn interiors create a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

Outside, there is plenty of space for drinks receptions, outdoor catering and guests to relax and enjoy the surroundings. It is a venue that feels both elegant and laid back, making it one of my favourite places to photograph weddings in Somerset.

Parade Gardens and The Riverside Colonnades

Location: Bath city centre

Venue Type: Outdoor ceremony venue

Best For: Couples wanting an iconic Bath wedding ceremony surrounded by historic architecture and riverside views.

This is one of the most visually stunning outdoor ceremony locations in Bath. Set within Parade Gardens and overlooking Pulteney Bridge, it offers a truly memorable setting for a wedding ceremony.

Ceremonies can take place either within the Edwardian bandstand or beneath the riverside colonnades. The venue can accommodate up to 100 guests and is entirely outdoors, which is worth bearing in mind when planning.

For couples looking for a relaxed outdoor celebration in the heart of Bath, it is difficult to imagine a more picturesque setting.

Walton Castle

Venue Type: Historic castle wedding venue

Best For: Couples wanting a unique wedding venue with dramatic architecture, accommodation and great views.

Walton Castle is one of the most unique wedding venues in Somerset. This sixteenth-century castle combines incredible history with spectacular views across the surrounding countryside.

The castle provides accommodation, ceremony spaces and exclusive use options, making it ideal for couples looking for something a little different.

As a photographer, I love the character of the venue. The historic architecture and elevated position create endless opportunities for memorable photographs throughout the day.

Gardens & Fields

Location: Various locations across Somerset

Venue Type: Marquee, garden and outdoor wedding venues

Best For: Couples wanting complete freedom to design their wedding day in a meaningful outdoor location.

One of the best things about a garden or field wedding is the freedom it gives you. Whether you’re getting married in your own garden, a family field, or a dedicated marquee venue with stunning countryside views, you can truly make the day your own.

From the rolling hills of Somerset to countryside locations near Bath and Bristol, the South West offers incredible backdrops for outdoor weddings.

Being able to choose a location that means something to you, and design the day exactly as you would like, often results in a wedding that feels more relaxed, meaningful and personal.

Best For: Couples looking for a stylish and luxurious wedding venue with vineyard views and a modern orangery.

First on my bucket list is Minerva Vines. Located close to Bath, this stunning venue combines a modern orangery with a beautiful vineyard setting in the rolling Somerset countryside.

The orangery immediately stands out to me, while the surrounding grounds and outdoor ceremony options look absolutely incredible. With The Pig nearby providing accommodation for guests, it also offers excellent practical benefits alongside its visual appeal.

Everards Farm

Everards Farm is another venue that immediately caught my attention. While I have not yet had the pleasure of photographing a wedding here, the venue looks absolutely stunning.
