As a wedding photographer based near Bristol, I’m lucky to work at some of the best venues in the South West. Over the years, I’ve photographed weddings across the city and surrounding countryside, and this is a curated list of my favourite Bristol wedding venues.

Hi, I’m Jacob. I’m based near Bath and regularly photograph weddings across Bristol, Clifton, and the surrounding Somerset countryside. I’ve put together this list of my favourite venues based on weddings I’ve genuinely loved capturing.

Choosing the Right Wedding Venue in Bristol

 

 

When choosing between wedding venues in Bristol, it’s not just about how a venue looks, it’s about how it works on the day.


From a photography perspective, things like natural light, space, and how the timeline flows can make a huge difference to how your wedding is captured.


Some venues in Bristol are perfect for relaxed, documentary-style photography, with lots of space for natural moments to unfold. Others are more structured, which can work beautifully too, it just depends on the kind of day you’re planning.

Arnos Vale

One of the most unique wedding venues in Bristol, Arnos Vale offers 45 acres of beautiful woodland while still being close to the city centre.


There are multiple ceremony options here - from the grand Spielman Centre with its elegant steps and pillars, to the gothic-style Anglican Chapel, and the more relaxed woodland Underwood Centre. Each space has its own character, and all of them photograph beautifully.


Every time I’ve worked here, the team have been incredibly welcoming and organised, helping the day run smoothly and feel relaxed.

Part of the Zazu’s Pub Company, Alma Tavern & Theatre is a unique wedding venue in the heart of Clifton.


With a traditional pub downstairs and a theatre space upstairs, it’s perfect for relaxed, informal weddings with loads of character. I’ve photographed some really fun weddings here, and it’s always a great atmosphere from start to finish.

Tucked away near Clifton Village, Goldney House is a bit of a hidden gem in Bristol.


Managed by the University of Bristol, it offers beautiful gardens and a light-filled orangery that works perfectly for ceremonies and receptions. Outdoor ceremonies here feel really intimate, even though you’re right in the city.


A great option if you want something central but still calm and tucked away.

Folly Farm

Just outside Bristol, Folly Farm is perfect if you’re looking for a countryside wedding with a relaxed feel.


The barn is a blank canvas, giving you the freedom to make it your own, and the surrounding hills create a stunning backdrop for photos. There’s also on-site accommodation, making it ideal for a full weekend wedding.


It’s an eco-friendly venue run by Avon Wildlife Trust, which is something a lot of couples really connect with.

If you want iconic Bristol views, it’s hard to beat the Avon Gorge Hotel.


Overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge, this venue is all about location. Sunset photos here are always incredible, and the interiors have recently been updated, making it a great space for both daytime and evening celebrations.


With accommodation on site and plenty nearby, it’s a strong choice for a central Bristol wedding.

Just outside the city, Berwick Lodge is a boutique hotel with stunning views across to Wales.


The gardens are perfect for drinks receptions, and it’s a venue where guests can properly relax and enjoy the day. With on-site accommodation and lots of character, it’s a really solid all-round option.

A classic Bristol wedding venue, and one of the most beautiful registry offices in the UK.


It offers four ceremony rooms and space for up to 150 guests. You’re also right in the centre, with loads of great bars, restaurants, and hotels nearby - perfect for continuing the celebrations.

Old Down Estate

Set within 66 acres of countryside, Old Down Estate offers both a manor house and a rustic barn.


It’s a really versatile venue with incredible views towards the Severn Bridge, and the day tends to flow effortlessly from ceremony through to the evening. There’s also no shortage of great photo spots.

With a large terrace overlooking the harbour, it’s perfect for laid-back celebrations with great food, good atmosphere, and a central location.

I’ve not photographed a wedding here yet, but it’s high on my list. It’s ideal if you’re after something unique with a bit of history and atmosphere.

Coombe Lodge

One of the most consistently brilliant venues near Bristol.


I’ve photographed a lot of weddings at Coombe Lodge over the years, and it always delivers. The house and gardens are beautifully kept, there are multiple ceremony options, and the team are incredibly experienced.


It works just as well in the rain as it does in the sunshine, which says a lot.

It has an industrial feel with exposed brickwork and a really intimate atmosphere - great if you’re planning something more low-key but stylish.

For another angle of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Clifton Observatory is hard to beat.


It’s an iconic Bristol location with panoramic views across the city, and the rooftop terrace makes a brilliant setting for drinks receptions.

It’s a great choice if you’re after something rural but still close to Bristol.
