As a South West wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing weddings at many incredible venues across Devon and Somerset. Each one is special in its own way, but if I had to choose a personal favourite, Deers Leap Retreat would be right near the top.
Deers Leap Retreat is a truly stunning Devon wedding venue, surrounded by miles of rolling countryside and offering the most peaceful and intimate atmosphere. Licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies, it’s perfect for couples looking for a relaxed countryside celebration. The venue offers a wonderful variety of accommodation, including a large farmhouse and a glamping area with bell tents overlooking the hills. There’s also a beautiful stone barn with a terrace, a lakeside gazebo, and hot tubs — ideal for creating an unforgettable wedding weekend.
As a wedding photographer at Deers Leap Retreat, I’ve had the joy of documenting many weddings here, and every one has been completely unique, personal, and full of character. When I arrive on the morning of a wedding, I always notice how calm and relaxed the atmosphere feels. Most couples arrive a day early to set up and settle in, so there’s none of that last-minute stress — just excitement.
The outdoor lakeside gazebo is a beautiful ceremony spot, where couples exchange vows surrounded by nature, while guests sit comfortably under the stretch tents. Later in the day, the stone barn provides the perfect backdrop for the evening reception and party. Whether you’re planning a live band, DJ, or your favourite Spotify playlist, the space is perfect for a night of celebration.
One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at Deers Leap Retreat is how Heather and the team run the venue. They’re incredibly welcoming and take such great care of their couples, ensuring every wedding feels relaxed, personal, and far from the typical “conveyor-belt” experience.
The grounds are stunning, offering the most beautiful backdrops for Devon wedding photography. It’s a dream location for natural, relaxed couple portraits and those candid moments between family and friends.
