Foxtail Barn Wedding Photographer
As a Foxtail Barn wedding photographer, it’s always a pleasure to photograph at one of Staffordshire’s most unique countryside venues. Foxtail Barn, part of The Tawny Hotel estate, is set within 70 acres of rolling parkland, woodlands, follies and lakes — offering endless opportunities for relaxed, natural wedding photography.
David and Abby live in Australia, so I was lucky enough to meet them for a coffee about a year before their wedding while they were back in the UK. It was great to chat through their plans and get to know them before their big day.
Bridal Preparations at Foxtail Barn
The day began in the red-brick bridal prep suite, where Abby was having her hair and make-up finished. It was a calm and happy atmosphere, and I loved meeting her bridesmaids as the morning unfolded.
I also met Grace and Brad from Keeley Wedding Films, who were capturing the day on film. Working alongside a good videography team always helps the day flow smoothly.
Meanwhile, David was getting ready in one of the shepherd’s huts just a short walk from Foxtail Barn, along with his best man Andy — a previous groom whose wedding I had photographed a few years earlier. The boys were enjoying the sunshine and sharing a few laughs before guests began to arrive.
Orangery Ceremony & Walled Garden Celebrations
The ceremony took place in the beautiful sunlit orangery. The window-style mirrors at the far end of the aisle create a stunning backdrop and allow natural light to flood the space — perfect for clean, elegant ceremony photographs as David and Abby exchanged vows and rings.
Afterwards, celebrations continued in the walled garden, framed by beautiful red-brick walls. Drinks, canapés and relaxed conversations filled the afternoon, which is always one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph naturally.
Exploring The Tawny Estate for Sunset Portraits
Foxtail Barn sits within 70 acres of estate grounds, including woodlands, follies and five lakes. It’s a dream setting for couple portraits. While we were mindful not to take David and Abby away from their guests for too long, we made the most of two short portrait sessions.
Before the meal, we spent around 15 minutes capturing relaxed couple photographs nearby. Then, at sunset, we hopped on a golf cart and headed out again for around 20 minutes as the light dropped across the estate. The golden light combined with the open landscape made for some of my favourite images of the day.
Party Barn & Evening Celebrations
The wedding breakfast was held in the Party Barn, followed by speeches that kicked off the evening celebrations. Once the DJ and sax player got started, the dance floor quickly filled, and the energy didn’t drop all night.
I finished the evening capturing David and Abby playing beer pong outside the Party Barn — a fun, spontaneous moment that perfectly reflected their personalities and the relaxed atmosphere of the day.
Foxtail Barn is ideal for couples wanting a countryside wedding in Staffordshire that combines luxury, nature and a laid-back celebration.
